Medieval Renaissance Peasant Separate Tops for Women
Create your own Medieval Peasant Costume to wear to a Renaissance Fair; cosplay con; an LARP or RPG event; or as a Halloween Costume by mixing and matching separate pieces.
I love becoming different characters for a day by dressing in a costume and the Renaissance era is my favorite time period. There are so many different characters and costumes which can be created for this time in history; including fantasy roles.
I am a semi-homemade kind of person when it comes to creating costumes. I like to use separate costume pieces to put together the look I want by layering, as well as getting a better size fitting. Too often for me, a one size costume does not fit me correctly. Usually, the top is too tight and the bottom too big, so I have found it much better for me to get separate pieces to create my own personal look with accessories that I like. It is also so much easier to accessorize when building a costume from separates.
I am featuring separate tops worn by the lower and working-class women during the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods. The plain simple peasant tops represent the class of women who filled the roles of tavern wenches, shopkeepers, kitchen maids, milkmaids, servants, and farm girls during the Middle Ages. Usually, the outfit of the day consisted of a peasant style blouse or a chemise, which was worn as the undergarment, with a corset and several layered skirts.

I would only wear this blouse if I was not planning to wear a corset or a separate over bodice as they would hide the pretty ruffled detailing of the blouse. The blouse is ruffled at the curved neckline, at the curved hem and on the hem of the 3/4 length bell sleeves. There are 3 rows of ruffles across the front of the shirt too which give it an ultra-feminine appeal. It buttons down the front with wood buttons and the fabric is textured ivory cotton muslin.

Wear this beautiful crocheted top over a long flowy skirt and tie it at the hips, or at the waist, with the attached sash into a big bow giving a flattering blouson fit. If you prefer tuck it in hiding the crochet sashed hem and wear with an underbust corset or a waist cincher. The fabric is sheer and airy. I recommend wearing a camisole or a lacey bra under the blouse would be appropriate because of the sheer fabric.
