Deluxe Adult Brave Princess Merida Costumes
Featuring a variety of adult Merida theater quality costumes inspired by the animated Disney film Brave. We are including Merida dresses, weapons, wigs, and shoes to make a complete outfit to wear to any of your favorite costume events.
Princess Merida of DunBroch, Scotland is the teenage daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor, the rulers of their Scottish kingdom. Princess Merida is no ordinary princess. She’s not the kind of princess who sits in an ivory tower dreaming of the prince she will someday marry. She’s an energetic, free-spirited, fiery lass who’s strong and brave, a bit of a tomboy, and a highly-skilled archeress.
Merida’s mother wants to marry her off, making her a proper Royal lady, but Merida’s not having it. She is torn between obeying her parents and using her own free will to create her own destiny. Merida is determined to take control of her own life and live it the way she pleases rather than doing whatever is expected of her.

I really like that the dress of this custom made costume is actually 2 pieces instead of just one. Included is the velvet dress with the cut-out sleeves and a separate cream chemise style blouse with a ruffled neckline and ruffled sleeves to be worn underneath. When ordering I would specify making the dress from a blue-teal velvet like the one in the Brave film and not a hunter green or green-teal velvet.
Choose your size from the size chart or have the dress custom made to your measurements. The fabric is a cotton velvet with a silky underskirt in a blue-teal, but you can request any color you want if having the dress custom made. This Medieval style dress costume can be worn for more than a Brave costume. It can also be used as a Renaissance Faire costume, a Pirate Fest costume, a comic-con or cosplay costume, or a Halloween costume.
Included with the dress is a faux leather quiver and belt. The quiver is actually vinyl and cheap looking. I recommend replacing it with a better quality quiver.

Imagine being in the highlands of Scotland using this bow. Made from PVC to look like wood with a Celtic design, this Merida Bow is inspired by the movie Brave. Included with the bow is a leather wrap handle.
This is a real, fully functional durable bow. Each bow is an ambidextrous bow with a bowstring made of 550 Paracord. IT IS NOT A TOY! It should be treated with care and of course safety. If you have never had any archery training, please be careful not to shoot these real arrows at anyone or around anyone (accidents can happen with novice archers). They WILL take out an eye or worse if you can imagine. OK. Enough of my little lecture rant. I just want you to be careful and safe.

Red Curly Merida Wigs
Unless you have a full head of long auburn red naturally curly hair, you will need a wig to pull off the completed look of the Scottish lass, Marida. Without the wig, people will think you are a Medieval lady but they won’t think of you as Merida. We are showing several really nice costume wigs, in different shades of red, for you to consider.

Merida Medieval Costume Shoes
In keeping with the Medieval fashions worn by Princess Merida, wearing a pair of Medieval style shoes is a necessity for a costume accurate to the ancient Scottish timeline. It just would not do to wear a pair of tennie-runners with Merida’s velvet forest dress. In fact, it would ruin the overall look of the costume and sneakers won’t win you any points or prizes at a Halloween costume contest.
We are featuring several different styles of shoes that are accurate, or at least very close in accuracy, to the shoes women wore during 12th-century Scottland. Decide which pair will be the most comforatable for you to wear as Merida.
Women’s Medieval Natural Leather Flat Shoes

Handmade of real genuine leather, these flat Medieval shoes are exact replicas of one type of shoe worn by women in early 12th-century Scotland. The flats are soft and will not give any support, but this is the way they were made way back when. They are available in black (shown), natural white (shown), and brown.
During those times, when the soles of the shoes wore out a new pair of soles were sewn onto the top of the shoe. Support was much discussed then. It was a matter of keeping feet dry and protecting the bottoms of one’s feet from stones in the road when walking. Walking was the only mode of transportation at the time. Carriages had not yet been invented and only wealthy nobles and royals, such as Merida, could afford to ride horses.
Birkenstock Habana Oiled Leather Buckle Clog
Birkenstock Habana Oiled Leather Buckle ClogClick for Details on Amazon
Unless you were the wife of a blacksmith, as a peasant woman you could not afford a pair of shoes made with metal buckles. Of course, the shoes did not have rubber soles, but the buckled Mary Jane style clog, or brogan as they were called, was a style worn by wealhier aristocrat women.
Everyone is familiar with the high-quality leather used in Germany to craft the Birkenstock clog. They are a high-quality product well-known around the world for their durability and comfort. These clogs are available in brown (shown) and black.
Women’s Soft Leather Ghillie Black Lace Up Flats
Women’s Soft Leather Ghillie Black Lace Up FlatsClick for Details on Amazon
The term ghillie is the Scot-Gaelic word for land and game manager. During the 12-century Scotland ghillies were a wee bit different than this modern day pair. Ghillies at that time were more or less a bag of leather with leather straps fed through loops and gathered around the foot. They were fashioned this way as waterproofing as they allowed water to run through the leather loops and gathers rather than standing still in the bottom of the shoe. Even though they were called ghillies, an estate’s grounds manager never wore them.
This pair of ghillies will make a wonderful addition to a Princess Merida costume. They are handmade in Ireland from soft high-quality genuine leather and are very comfortable to wear as they are used these days for dance.
