A home-style Mrs. Claus outfit that is a wonderful costume to wear when accompanying Santa Claus to visit charity events. The outfit consists of a plain white cotton/poly blend Victorian style blouse with leg o’ mutton sleeves, a white apron cut from the same fabric as the blouse, and a red skirt with a wide ruffled hem accented with white rickrack trim. Also included is a red mop cap with matching white rickrack trim.

IMHO, I think the white on white is a bit bright. I would be inclined to drag out my embroidery basket and embroider something red and green in the spirit of Christmas on the front bib of the apron. If you don’t know how to embroider, purchase a Christmas-themed embroidered Iron On Patch appliqué from a local fabric shop, hobby store, or online from Amazon, just to add a bit of color to the bright white apron.

Another idea is to pin on a simple Christmas-themed jewelry piece.

This is an affordable Mrs. Claus dress costume that will probably only be good for one winter season. It is a one-piece red poly-velvet coat-dress combo that zips up the back and gives the illusion of a 2-piece coat and dress. Included, is a second-piece hooded shoulder-mantle capelet embroidered with a gold design. The capelet and the coat-dress are trimmed in a thin white faux fur. You may have to gently comb the fur when it first comes out of the package. The underskirt insert panel peeking out from under the long coat-dress is red crushed velvet fabric with gold foil embellishments at the hemline.

I recommend wearing a long, full petticoat underneath the dress to increase the fullness of the drape of the skirt. Otherwise, the dress will just hang there limp. Keep in mind the petticoat will raise the skirt length a little. Additionally, you may want to order a size up, especially if larger busted and because costume sizes tend to run smaller that regular clothing sizes. Be sure to check your measurements against the manufactures sizeing chart and not Amazon’s sizing chart.

The dress will come out of the packaging slightly creased where it’s folded. Hang it up for at least a day and the wrinkles should fall out. If the dress is still wrinkled after a day or two of hanging, you can try to steam the wrinkles out with a handheld steamer. I do NOT recommend trying to iron it as the fabric may be damaged. If you do NOT plan on returning it and want to try ironing it be sure the dress is turned inside out and iron on a very LOW heat! Be very careful to keep the iron away from the faux fur as the fur will melt!

Included with the dress is a black vinyl belt with an antique gold-tone plastic buckle. If you have a better quality belt with a large gold-tone buckle, I recommend using it in place of the vinyl belt. A faux fur-trimmed Santa hat is also included if you want to wear the dress without the hooded mantle capelet.

In this day and age, few women have white hair color from age because of the indulgence of many trips to the beauty shop to either color their hair to become white or to color what age has turned white. We are never happy with what we have are we? So, unless you have colored your hair to white or gray, you will need a Mrs. Claus wig to wear with your costume. Look through the different styles of quality wigs I have found and pick the one you like the best. They range in style from elegant to grandmotherly in appearance.
